Tracy Evans

Tracy Evans

Tracy Evans is a nationally recognized expert in Carbon Capture, Utilization and Sequestration (CCUS), with over 30 years experience driving innovative strategies in carbon management.  Known for being forthright and transparent, Mr. Evans has served in a variety of senior leadership positions and on numerous Advisory Committees and Boards of Directors in the US energy industry.


From 1999 to 2011, Tracy served on the senior management team of Denbury Resources, ultimately as President and COO.  In 2017, he founded the predecessor companies of CapturePoint LLC, and served as CEO through early 2025.  He has led numerous successful carbon management projects including construction of carbon capture facilities and long-distance carbon transportation pipelines, development of carbon sequestration sites and expansion of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) operations.


Throughout Tracy's career, he has been a trailblazing pioneer noted for his commitments to safe operations, to meeting and exceeding all regulatory standards, and to engagement with local communities.  He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a BS in Petroleum Engineering, and he earned his MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Sherry Tucker

Sherry Tucker

Sherry Tucker has a distinguished career permitting clean energy, pipeline, environmental and land use developments, and she has led governmental relations, community engagement, and public communications efforts for successful projects nationwide.  In 2023, her experience in carbon management initiatives led to an appointment to the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) Carbon Dioxide Capture, Utilization and Sequestration Federal Lands and Outer Continental Shelf Permitting Task Force.


Prior to joining The CO2 Institute, Sherry served as Vice President for Communications, Governmental Affairs and Community Relations at CapturePoint, LLC.  Previous positions included Partner at McGuire Woods LLP, as an environmental practice counsel at Nixon Peabody LLP, and as Associate General Counsel at the US Department of Energy.


Ms. Tucker's expertise includes navigating Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act requirements as well as regulatory policies at the federal, state and local levels.  She earned her AB from Mount Holyoke College and her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland.

Vernon Travis

Vernon Travis

Vernon Travis is a noted community advocate and grassroots activist with deep ties in Central Louisiana.  Before engaging his current public service career championing students, schools and statewide and national education policies, Mr. Travis served in the US Army (both in the infantry and as a military intelligence officer).  He has also served as an engineer in the Louisiana National Guard and as a Regional Training Manager for Northern Automotive.


For the past 20 years, Vernon has been an elected Member of the Vernon Parish School Board, including roles as President, Vice President, and Finance Chairman.  He has also been active in education policy and advocacy organizations, including leadership roles in the Louisiana School Boards Association (President of the Board of Directors) and the nationwide Consortium of State School Boards Associations (Chair, Board of Directors).


Mr. Travis was instrumental in the creation of a carbon capture community benefits program in Vernon Parish that funds the first Career and Technical Education (CTE) training program for high school students.  He earned his BS from Northeast Louisiana University (now University of Louisiana at Monroe) and studied Psychology at Northwestern University.

Mike Morrill

Mike is a communications consultant with 40 years of experience in all aspects of internal and external corporate branding; public sector and community organizing and outreach; and non-profit campaigns and management.


After college (The Johns Hopkins University), Mike worked for nearly 20 years in the public sector, including a variety of positions over a decade-and-a-half in the United States Senate plus four years as the Communications Director for the Governor of Maryland. During that time, he was also the campaign manager for three successful U.S. Senate campaigns and advised two statewide ballot initiatives.


Mike's later experience in the private sector included work for two prominent advertising and public relations firms in the mid-Atlantic, supporting the integration team that merged Harrah's and Caesars Entertainment, and development and implementation of national peer tutoring educational programs for at-risk students.


For the last 15 years, Mike has been an independent communications consultant providing strategic and governmental relations advice, media training, and motivational programming primarily for public school districts, clean energy companies, and non-profit organizations.
